Route to Istanbul (Part 1)


In the year of 2005,Liverpool played AC Milan in Champions League Final in Istanbul,Turkey.Liverpool before entering their first Champions League Final have beaten the likes of AS Monaco,Deportivo La Coruna and Olympiakos in Group Stage.AS Monaco the finalist of the previous season became Liverpool's first opponent in Group Stage.Liverpool were playing at their home backyard,Anfield.Liverpool managed to beat the French side by two-goal cushion thanks to their record signing at that time,Djibril Cisse and Euro 2004 topscorer,Milan Baros.Then,they suffered a narrow lost by Olympiakos in Greece.After that,they played Spanish club,Deportivo,the semi-finalist in 2004.They drawn 0-0 at home before hold on to 1-0 victory over the same opponent in Spain by unlucky Jorge Andrade own-goal.In Monaco,Liverpool put their qualification hopes into a dead-end by losing 1-0 to Monaco.Argentinian,Javier Saviola scored the crucial goal for the French side although that there were shouts of offside by both Liverpool players and commentators during the match.That leave Liverpool to a no choice but to beat Olympiakos by a goal with cleansheet.That seemed to be very difficult by Liverpool to do that after trailing 1-0 at half-time courtesy of goal by Brazilian,Rivaldo who scored from a freekick.They must scoring 3 goals in order to beat the Greek side on goal differences.But Liverpool night seemed on course to be their as Florent Sinama Pongolle and Neil Mellor as given Liverpool advantage with 9 minutes remaining.On 87 minutes,the magical,spectacular and accurate shot from the skipper,Steven Gerrard turned Anfield into an intense and very noisy as the fans celebrate their captain fantastic goal that put Liverpool adventure in Champions League back into Liverpool's hands and surely booked Liverpool ticket to the next round.The Reds hang on to beat Olympiakos 3-1 and send all Liverpool fans in the stadium and all over the world thinking and dreaming that they can win the Champions League or European Cup for a record of fifth time.
